Film & TV Unit logo

Since 1940, the American Humane Association has ensured the proper care and safety of animals that appear in filmed entertainment. Our Los Angeles-based Film & Television Unit is designated by the Screen Actors Guild as the only animal welfare organization with on-set jurisdiction. It’s a responsibility our highly qualified and trained Certified Animal Safety Representatives™ take seriously as they travel around the world to protect animal actors and award American Humane’s famous "No Animals Were Harmed”® end-credit disclaimer to those productions that meet our strict Guidelines for the Safe Use of Animals in Filmed Media.

American Humane and ‘Marley & Me’ Launch Pet Adoption Campaign

Using the Popularity of Best-Selling Story and President-Elect Obama’s Dog Adoption Commitment to Raise Awareness

Allie Phillips, Sandi Buck and Tracy Coppola (of the Office of Public Policy) with Marley.

American Humane monitored the filming of Marley and Me and has awarded it our "Monitored: Outstanding" rating and "No Animals Were Harmed"® end-credit disclaimer. Based on the best-selling book about the real-life experiences of a family and its rambunctious yellow Lab, the film is expected to be a big hit at the box office when it opens Dec. 25, 2008.

Capitalizing on the popularity of the book and the public anticipation for the movie, American Humane and 20th Century Fox are collaborating to raise national awareness about the importance of adopting animals from shelters and breed rescue groups.

The campaign kicked off Nov. 12, 2008, in Washington, D.C., on The Ellipse, across from the White House. The location was selected because of President-elect Barack Obama’s commitment to adopt a rescue dog to fulfill his promise to his daughters that they could have a puppy. One of the four-legged stars of Marley & Me was there to help out his fellow canines from several local shelters.
